The Replica jewelry collection by Göran Kling immediately connects viewer with the expensive Swiss watch juxtaposed with cheap knock-offs.
But drew me was how the ‘watch’ here is actually a bracelet. If you remember my blog post Watches – A Fashion for 500 Years, I proposed the question asking whether watches are categorized under jewelry. Some of the examples I posted had hidden dials which obscure the dial. Though hidden, it still primarily behaved as a watch. Kling takes the watch dial completely off and replaces it with a decorative metal plate. In some cases, he simply just replaces it with a flat gold surface which makes it more recognizable as an existing watch in addition to the classic watch band links.
The Replica collection shows that without a dial, a watch is really just a bracelet. The traditional watch band links or leather band act as an ornamental element on its own.
